worship as communal exchange

called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

SONG: Christ the Lord is Risen Today

Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia
Christ hath opened Paradise, Alleluia

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia

Hail, the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia
Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia
Hail, the resurrection day, Alleluia

King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia
Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia
Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia
Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia

But the pains that He endured, Alleluia
Our salvation have procured, Alleluia
Now above the sky He’s King, Alleluia
Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia
Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia

we hear | 1 Corinthians 15:17

(leader) Christ has risen!

(all) He has risen indeed, Hallelujah!

(leader) If Christ has not been raised, than our faith is futile and we are still in our sins. But come, let us worship, for Christ has risen!

(all) He has risen indeed, Hallelujah!

SONG: Christ is Risen, He’s Risen Indeed

How can it be, the One who died
Has borne our sin through sacrifice
To conquer every sting of death
Sing, sing hallelujah

For joy awakes as dawning light
When Christ’s disciples lift their eyes
Alive He stands, their Friend and King
Christ, Christ He is risen

Christ is risen, He is risen indeed
Oh, sing hallelujah
Join the chorus, sing with the redeemed
Christ is risen
He is risen indeed

Where doubt and darkness once had been
They saw Him and their hearts believed
But blessed are those who have not seen
Yet, sing hallelujah

Once bound by fear now bold in faith
They preached the truth and power of grace
And pouring out their lives they gained
Life, life everlasting

The power that raised Him from the grave
Now works in us to powerfully save
He frees our hearts to live His grace
Go tell of His goodness.

He’s alive, He’s alive!
Heaven’s gates are opened wide.
He’s alive, He’s alive!
Now in heaven glorified.

we respond | Matthew 28:11-17

While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.  Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

we hear and confess | Prayer from Valley of Vision: “Crucifixion and Resurrection”

O Lord, the tomb calls for our adoring wonder, for it is empty and you are risen.  Give us to die with you that we may rise to new life, for we wish to be dead and buried to sin, to selfishness, to the world.  O Lord, there is much ill about us – crucify it, much flesh within us – mortify it.  Resurrect us, O Lord, even as Christ was historically resurrected by your power.  Resurrect us from sin and shame to righteousness and belonging.  Apart from new life, we have no life.  Apart from resurrection we have no renewal.  So renew us, recreate us, resurrect us by the authority of the resurrected Christ.  Amen.

SONG: Sin is Powerless

Subdue in me, the love of sin
Wash my life, without, within
Teach my soul to long for only You
Teach us Lord, to cling to the truth

There is no guilt, no shame
no hold on us
You are victorious

There is no curse, no blame
no fear in love
now sin is powerless

So fill my life to overflow
I claim the cross as all my hope
Teach my soul to long for only You
Teach us Lord, to cling to the truth

The Spirit that raised You
up from the grave
is in us, is in us

We’re covered in grace
our failures erased
in Jesus, in Jesus

The Spirit that raised You
up from the grave
is in us, is in us

We’re covered in grace
our failures erased
in Jesus, in Jesus

There is no guilt, no shame
no hold on us
You are victorious

There is no curse, no blame
no fear in love
now sin is powerless

There is no guilt, no shame
no hold on us
You are victorious

There is no curse, no blame
no fear in love
now sin is powerless

declaration | 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon | Remember Jesus Christ  •  2 Timothy 2:8-9

we respond | SONG: In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone Who took on flesh
Fullness of God In helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost it’s grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

SONG: Resurrection Hymn

See, what the morning, gloriously bright
With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem
Folded the grave clothes, tomb filled with light
As the angels announce Christ is risen!

See God’s salvation plan, wrought in love
Borne in pain, paid in sacrifice
Fulfilled in Christ, the Man, for He lives
Christ is risen from the dead

See Mary weeping, “Where is He laid?”
As in sorrow she turns from the empty tomb
Hears a voice speaking, calling her name
It’s the Master, the Lord raised to life again

The voice that spans the years, speaking life
Stirring hope, bringing peace to us
Will sound ’til He appears, for He lives
Christ is risen from the dead

One with the Father, Ancient of Days
Through the Spirit who clothes faith with certainty
Honor and blessing, glory and praise
To the King crowned with power and authority

And we are raised with Him, death is dead
Love was won, Christ has conquered
And we shall reign with Him, for He lives
Christ is risen from the dead

compelled to go out

God blesses us and charges us go out and extend his kingdom into the broken world around us, making disciples of all nations.

(leader) O death, where is your victory?  O death, where is your sting?

Thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
