called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

we hear | Psalm 148:13-14

we respond : SONG: Glorious and Mighty

Majesty, Your glory is shining
Brighter than the moon and the stars
Marveling, we honor and fear You
Above all gods

Glorious and mighty
You’re awesome In beauty
Joyful songs we raise

Glorious and mighty
You’re awesome in beauty
Greatly to be praised

Majesty, You fashioned the heavens
Your decrees can never be changed
Over all the plans of the nations
Your judgments reign

Glorious and mighty
You’re awesome In beauty
Joyful songs we raise

Glorious and mighty
You’re awesome in beauty
Greatly to be praised

Majesty, we’ll sing with creation
When You come again in the clouds
Every knee will bow down and worship
The one true God

Glorious and mighty
You’re awesome In beauty
Joyful songs we raise

Glorious and mighty
You’re awesome in beauty
Greatly to be praised

we hear | Psalm 63

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you;  your right hand upholds me. But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth; they shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals. But the king shall rejoice in God;  all who swear by him shall exult,  for the mouths of liars will be stopped.

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

SONG: God Be Merciful To Me

God be merciful to me
On thy grace I rest my plea
Plenteous in compassion thou
Blot out my transgressions now
Wash me, Make me pure within
Cleanse, O cleanse me from my sin

My transgressions I confess
Grief and guilt my soul oppress
I have sinned against thy grace
And provoked thee to thy face
I confess thy judgment just
Speechless I thy mercy trust

I am evil, born in sin
Thou desirest truth within
Thou alone my Savior art
Teach thy wisdom to my heart
Make me pure, thy grace bestow
Wash me whiter than the snow

Broken, humbled to the dust
By thy wrath and judgement just
Let my contrite heart rejoice
And in gladness hear thy voice
From my sins O hide thy face
Blot them out in boundless grace

Gracious God, my heart renew
Make my spirit right and true
Cast me not away from thee
Let thy Spirit dwell in me
Thy salvation’s joy import
Steadfast make my willing heart

Sinners then shall learn from me
And return O God to Thee
Savior all my guilt remove
And my tongue shall sing Thy love
Touch my silent lips O Lord
And my mouth shall praise accord

we here | Isaiah 2:12-17, 22

For the LORD of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low; against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and lifted up; and against all the oaks of Bashan; against all the lofty mountains,  and against all the uplifted hills; against every high tower, and against every fortified wall; against all the ships of Tarshish, and against all the beautiful craft.

And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled,  and the lofty pride of men shall be brought low, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?

we confess | Prayer from Valley of Vision

O Meek Savior, Let not pride swell in my heart.  My nature is the mire beneath my feet, the dust to which I shall return. Low as I am as a creature, I am lower as a sinner.  How can I flaunt myself proudly?  Lowest abasement is my due place, for I am less than nothing before thee.  Help me to see myself in thy sight, then pride must wither, decay, die, perish.  Humble my heart before thee.  If I fall, let me hide myself in my Redeemer’s righteousness, and when I escape, may I ascribe all deliverance to thy grace.  Keep me humble, meek, lowly – as Jesus was for me. Amen.

we rest | SONG: Arise My Soul Arise

Arise, my soul, arise
shake off your guilty fears
The bleeding sacrifice
in my behalf appears

Before the throne my Surety stands
Before the throne my Surety stands
My name is written on His hands

Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise
Arise, my soul, arise

Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise
Arise, my soul, arise
Shake off your guilty fears and rise

He ever lives above
for me to intercede
His all redeeming love
His precious blood, to plead

His blood atoned for every race
His blood atoned for every race
And sprinkles now the throne of grace

Five bleeding wounds He bears
received on Calvary
They pour effectual prayers
they strongly plead for me

Forgive him, O forgive, they cry
Forgive him, O forgive, they cry
Nor let that ransomed sinner die

The Father hears Him pray
His dear anointed One
He cannot turn away
the presence of His Son

The Spirit answers to the blood
The Spirit answers to the blood
And tells me I am born of God

My God is reconciled
His pardoning voice I hear
He owns me for His child
I can no longer fear

With confidence I now draw nigh
With confidence I now draw nigh
And Father, Abba, Father, cry

declaration | 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon |  A Saved Community • Titus 3:8-15 | David Royes

we respond | SONG: Behold Our God

Who has held the oceans in His hands
Who has numbered every grain of sand
Kings and nations tremble at His voice
All creation rises to rejoice

Behold our God seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him!

Who has given counsel to the Lord
Who can question any of His Words
Who can teach the One who knows all things
Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds

Behold our God seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him!

Who has felt the nails upon His hands
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man
God eternal humbled to the grave
Jesus, Savior risen now to reign

Behold our God seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him!

Men: You will reign forever
Women: Let Your glory fill the earth

Men: You will reign forever
Women: Let Your glory fill the earth

Men: You will reign forever
Women: Let Your glory fill the earth

Men: You will reign forever
Women: Let Your glory fill the earth

Men: You will reign forever
Women: Let Your glory fill

Behold our God seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him

SONG: Jesus I My Cross Have Taken

Jesus, I my cross have taken
all to leave and follow Thee
Destitute, despised, forsaken
Thou from hence my all shall be
Perish every fond ambition
all I’ve sought or hoped or known
Yet how rich is my condition
God and Heaven are still mine own

Let the world despise and leave me
they have left my Savior too
Human hearts and looks deceive me
Thou art not like them untrue
O while Thou dost smile upon me
God of wisdom, love and might
Foes may hate and friends disown me
show Thy face and all is bright

Man may trouble and distress me
’twill but drive me to Thy breast
Life with trials hard may press me
heaven will bring me sweeter rest
Oh, ’tis not in grief to harm me
while Thy love is left to me
Oh, ’twere not in joy to charm me
were that joy unmixed with Thee

Go, then, earthly fame and treasure
Come disaster, scorn and pain
In Thy service, pain is pleasure
with Thy favor, loss is gain
I have called Thee, Abba, Father
I have stayed my heart on Thee
Storms may howl, and clouds may gather
all must work for good to me

Soul then know Thy full salvation
rise o’er sin and fear and care
Joy to find in every station
something still to do or bear
Think what Spirit dwells within thee
Think what Father’s smiles are thine
Think that Jesus died to win thee
child of heaven, canst thou repine

Haste thee on from grace to glory
armed by faith, and winged by prayer
Heaven’s eternal days before thee
God’s own hand shall guide us there
Soon shall close thy earthly mission
swift shall pass thy pilgrim days
Hope shall change to glad fruition
faith to sight, and prayer to praise

compelled to go out

God blesses us and charges us go out and extend his kingdom into the broken world around us, making disciples of all nations
