worship as communal exchangeLiturgy image

called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

Song: Come People of the Risen King

Come, people of the Risen King
Who delight to bring Him praise
Come all and tune your hearts to sing
To the Morning Star of grace

From the shifting shadows of the earth
We will lift our eyes to Him
Where steady arms of mercy reach
To gather children in

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

Come, those whose joy is morning sun
And those weeping through the night
Come, those who tell of battles won
And those struggling in the fight

For His perfect love will never change
And His mercies never cease
But follow us through all our days
With the certain hope of peace

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

Come, young and old from every land
Men and women of the faith
Come, those with full or empty hands
Find the riches of His grace

Over all the world, His people sing
Shore to shore we hear them call
The Truth that cries through every age
“Our God is all in all”

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

we hear | Isaiah 61:10-11

(leader) Come, worship the Father, Son and Spirit! Come, in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began!

(people) Let those who fear the Lord say: His steadfast love endures forever!

(all) We give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His steadfast love endures forever!

we respond : Psalm 65:1-8

(leader) Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed.
O you who hear prayer, to you shall all flesh come.
When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.
Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts!
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!
By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness O God of our salvation,
the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas;
the one who by his strength established the mountains, being girded with might;
who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples,
so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your  signs.
You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

SONG: Jesus I Come

Out of my bondage, sorrow and night
Jesus, I come; Jesus I come
Into Thy freedom, gladness and light
Jesus, I come to Thee

Out of my sickness into Thy health
Out of my wanting and into Thy wealth
Out of my sin and into Thyself
Jesus, I come to Thee

Out of my shameful failure and loss
Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross
Jesus, I come to Thee

Out of earth’s sorrows into Thy balm
Out of life’s storms and into Thy calm
Out of distress into jubilant psalm
Jesus, I come to Thee

Out of unrest and arrogant pride
Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come
Into Thy blessed will to abide
Jesus, I come to Thee

Out of myself to dwell in Thy love
Out of despair into raptures above
Upward forever on wings like a dove
Jesus, I come to Thee

Out of the fear and dread of the tomb
Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come
Into the joy and light of Thy home
Jesus, I come to Thee

Out of the depths of ruin untold
Into the peace of Thy sheltering fold
Ever Thy glorious face to behold
Jesus, I come to Thee

Jesus, I come to Thee

we hear and confess | Ephesians 3:20-24

(leader) Considering our tendency to be spiritually “callous;” to give ourselves “up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity”…

That is not the way you learned Christ!—1assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

we confess: from the Valley of Vision book of Puritan Prayers

O blessed Spirit, author of grace and comfort, come and work repentance in my soul.  Represent sin to me in its odious colors that I may hate it.  Melt my heart by the majesty and mercy of God; show me my ruined self and the help there is in him.  Teach me to behold my Creator, his ability to save, his arms outstretched.  Make me willing to be saved in this way, perceiving nothing in myself, but all in Jesus.  Help me not only to receive him, but to walk in him, depend upon him, commune with him, be conformed to him, follow him.  May I be saved by grace through faith, live by faith, feel the joy of faith, do the work of faith.  Perceiving nothing in myself, may I find in Christ wisdom, righteousness and redemption.  Amen.

we rest: SONG: Come Ye Sinners

Come ye sinners poor and wretched
Weak and wounded sick and sore
Jesus ready stands to save you
Full of pity love and power

He is able, He is able
He is willing; doubt no more

Come ye needy, come and welcome
God’s free bounty glorify

True belief and true repentance
Every grace that brings you nigh

Without money, without money
Come to Jesus Christ and buy

Come ye weary heavy laden
bruised and broken by the fall
If you tarry till you’re better
You will never come at all

Not the righteous, not the righteous
Sinner Jesus came to call

Let not conscience make you linger
Nor of fitness fondly dream

All the fitness He requires
Is to feel your need of Him

This He gives you, this He gives you
Tis the Spirit’s rising beam

Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended
Pleads the merit of His blood

Venture on Him; venture wholly
Let no other trust intrude

None but Jesus, none but Jesus
Can do helpless sinners good

declaration | 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon |  Fear, and the God of Peace • Proverbs 10:24 | David Royes

we respond | SONG: Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul

Dear refuge of my weary soul
On Thee when sorrows rise
On Thee when waves of trouble roll
My fainting hope relies

To Thee I tell each rising grief
For Thou alone canst heal
Thy Word can bring a sweet relief
For every pain I feel

But oh when gloomy doubts prevail
I fear to call Thee mine
The springs of comfort seem to fail
And all my hopes decline

Yet gracious God where shall I flee
Thou art my only truest
And still my soul would cleave to Thee
Though prostrate in the dust

Hast Thou not bid me seek Thy face
And shall I seek in vain
And can the ear of sovereign grace
Be deaf when I complain

No still the ear of sovereign grace
Attends the mourner’s prayer
Oh may I ever find access
To breathe my sorrows there

Thy mercy seat is open still
Here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend Thy will
And wait beneath Thy feet

Thy mercy seat is open still
Here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend Thy will
And wait beneath Thy feet

SONG: The Solid Rock

My Hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand
