worship as communal exchangeLiturgy image

called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

SONG: Praise the Lord, Plasm 117

Praise the Lord all you nations
extol him all you peoples
for great is his love for us

Praise the Lord he is faithful
His love endures for ever
and great is his love for us

Sing a song of praise to God enthroned on High
Bow before the King of the angels

His mercy and His love his justice will be known
lift a song of praise to the Lord

Boldly shout his praise for he has rescued us
Sin and death no more can enslave us

His beauty and his power displayed at Calvary
lift a song of praise to the Lord

and great is his love for us

we hear | Psalm 63:1-4

(leader) O God, you are our God; earnestly we seek you!

(People) Our souls thirst for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

(leader) So we come, looking upon you in the sanctuary, wanting to behold your power and glory.

(People) Because your steadfast love is better than life… we praise you.  We bless you as long as we live, in your name we lift up our hands.

we respond | SONG: Come Boldly to the Throne of Grace

Come boldly to the throne of grace
Ye wretched sinners come
And lay your load at Jesus’ feet
And plead what he has done

How can I come? Some soul may say
I’m lame and cannot walk
My guilt and sin have stopped my mouth
I sigh but dare not talk

Come boldly to the throne of grace
Though lost and blind and lame
Jehovah is the sinner’s Friend
And ever was the same

He makes the dead to hear his voice
He makes the blind to see
The sinner lost he came to save
And set the pris’ner free

Come boldly to the throne of grace
For Jesus fills the throne
And those he kills he makes alive
He hears the sigh or groan

Poor bankrupt souls who feel and know
The hell of sin within
Come boldly to the throne of grace
The Lord will take you in
take you in

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

we hear | Ephesians 6:12, Romans 8:35-39

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

we confess | Romans 7:18-25

Lord, Teach me to pray.  I confess that in religious exercises the language of the lips and the feelings of my heart have not always agreed.  I have frequently taken carelessly upon my tongue a name never pronounced without reverence or humility.  Let your Spirit help, for I know not what to pray for as I ought.  Let him produce in me wise desires by which I may ask for the right things.  May I seek first your kingdom and its righteousness.  May I be poor, despised, and convicted of my sin and want – and so have your blessing in Jesus, rather than be successful, or have more than my heart can wish, or be admired by fellow men.  These things make me forget you.  May I desire to depart from this deceptive world.  Yet, while I am in it may I seek my joy in your image, your Spirit, your righteousness, and your service.   Amen.

we rest | SONG: O Love that Will Not Let Me Go

O Love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in thee

I give thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be

O light that foll’west all my way
I yield my flick’ring torch to thee

My heart restores its borrowed ray
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be

O Joy that seekest me through pain
I cannot close my heart to thee

I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be

O Cross that liftest up my head
I dare not ask to fly from thee

I lay in dust life’s glory dead
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be

declaration | Psalm 32:10

(leader) Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O you righteous!

(all) Shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon |  Disciples of Jesus • John 6:59-71 | David Royes

we respond | SONG: I Will Sing Praise to God

I will sing praise to God
He has lifted me up
He heard my cry for help
And He filled my cup

His favor extends for a lifetime
His grace gives me strength each day
My soul shall sing His praise
forever more

I’ll put my trust in Him
God my refuge and strength
For when my life seems lost
He will show me the way

My soul shall sing His praise
Forever more

SONG: My Heart is Filled with Thankfulness

My heart is filled with thankfulness
To Him who bore my pain

Who plumbed the depths
of my disgrace
And gave me life again

Who crushed my curse of sinfulness
And clothed me with His light

And wrote His law of righteousness
With pow’r upon my heart

My heart is filled with thankfulness
To Him who walks beside

Who floods my weaknesses
with strength
And causes fears to fly

Whose ev’ry promise is enough
For ev’ry step I take

Sustaining me with arms of love
And crowning me with grace

My heart is filled with thankfulness
To him who reigns above

Whose wisdom is my perfect peace
Whose ev’ry thought is love

For ev’ry day I have on earth
Is given by the King

So I will give my life, my all
To love and follow him

For ev’ry day I have on earth
Is given by the King

So I will give my life, my all
To love and follow him

compelled to go out
