worship as communal exchangeLiturgy image

called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

Song: Psalm 117

Praise the Lord all you nations
extol him all you peoples
for great is his love for us

Praise the Lord he is faithful
His love endures for ever
and great is his love for us

Sing a song of praise to God enthroned on High
Bow before the King of the angels

His mercy and His love his justice will be known
lift a song of praise to the Lord

Boldly shout his praise for he has rescued us
Sin and death no more can enslave us

His beauty and his power displayed at Calvary
lift a song of praise to the Lordand great is his love for us

we hear | Psalm 95

(leader) O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

(all) You have set your glory above the heavens.

(leader) Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

(all) When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

(leader) Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

(all) You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,

(leader) all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

(all) O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

we respond | SONG: Satisfied

All my life long I had panted
for a drink from some cool spring
that I hoped would quench the burning
of the thirst I felt within

Hallelujah He has found me
the One my soul so long has craved
Jesus satisfies all my longings
through his blood I now am saved

Feeding on the filth around me
’till my strength was almost gone
Longed my soul for something better
only still to hunger on

Hallelujah He has found me
the One my soul so long has craved
Jesus satisfies all my longings
through his blood I now am saved

Poor I was and sought for riches
something that would satisfy
But the dust I gathered ’round me
only mocked my soul’s sad cry

Hallelujah He has found me
the One my soul so long has craved
Jesus satisfies all my longings
through his blood I now am saved

Well of water ever springing
Bread of Life so rich and free
Untold wealth that never faileth
my Redeemer is to me

Hallelujah He has found me
the One my soul so long has craved
Jesus satisfies all my longings
through his blood I now am saved

Hallelujah He has found me
the One my soul so long has craved
Jesus satisfies all my longings
through his blood I now am saved

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

we hear | Isaiah 42:1-6

Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench…

Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: “I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness;  I will take you by the hand and keep you…

we confess | from Valley of Vision Prayers

O Lord, I am not yet weaned from all created glory, honor, wisdom and the esteem of others, for I have a secret motive to eye my name in all I do.  Let me not only speak the word sin, but see the thing itself.  Give me to view a discovered sinfulness, to know that though my sins are crucified, they are never wholly mortified.  And yet, the gospel is that the cross still stands and meets my needs in the deepest straits of soul.  The memory of my present sins, my many temptations and falls… thank you that they bring afresh the remembrance of your great help and of the great grace that saved such a wretch as I am.  Give me grace upon grace, through the life and cross and resurrection of Jesus my gentle Savior, whose perfect righteousness has been credited to me time upon time…  Amen.

we rest | SONG: 10,000 Reasons

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up
it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again

Whatever may pass
and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing
when the evening comes

You’re rich in love
and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great
and Your heart is kind

For all Your goodness
I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons
for my heart to find

And on that day
when my strength is failing
The end draws near
and my time has come

Still my soul will sing
Your praise unending
Ten thousand years
and then forevermore

I’ll worship Your holy name
Yes, I’ll worship Your holy name

declaration | 1 Peter 2:24

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon |  Better Than the Mighty • Proverbs 16:32 | David Royes

we respond | SONG: In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song

This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled when strivings cease

My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone Who took on flesh
Fullness of God In helpless babe

This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save

‘Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost it’s grip on me

For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ In me

From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

SONG: O Love That Will Not Let Me Go

O Love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in thee

I give thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be

O light that foll’west all my way
I yield my flick’ring torch to thee

My heart restores its borrowed ray
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be

O Joy that seekest me through pain
I cannot close my heart to thee

I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be

O Cross that liftest up my head
I dare not ask to fly from thee

I lay in dust life’s glory dead
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be

compelled to go out

God blesses us and charges us go out and extend his kingdom into the broken world around us, making disciples of all nations
