worship as communal exchange

called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

SONG: All Creatures of Our God and King

ll creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia Alleluia

Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam

O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia

Thou rushing wind that art so strong
Ye clouds that sail in heav’n along
O praise Him! Alleluia

Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening, find a voice

O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia

Thou flowing water pure and clear
make music for thy Lord to hear
Alleluia Alleluia

Thou fire so masterful and bright
That givest man both warmth and light

O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia

And all ye men of tender heart
Forgiving others, take your part
O sing ye Alleluia

Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
Praise God and on Him cast your care

O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him! Alleluia

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, Three in One

O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia

we hear | Luke 6:20-28

(leader) Come and worship the King – the King of ages, immortal and invisible.

(all) To the only God be honor and glory forever and ever.  Amen.

SONG: Draw Me Deeper

Draw me deeper into You, Lord Jesus
Take me closer to the cross
Where You bled and died
Share with me the fellowship of Your suffering
For I desire abundant life
Jesus I desire abundant life

You have only one Identity
I have tried to make You be the God I want
So I am guilty of idolatry
Now I desire to know just who You really are

Draw me deeper into You, Lord Jesus
Take me closer to the cross
Where You bled and died
Share with me the fellowship of Your suffering
For I desire abundant life
Jesus I desire abundant life

There is only one reality
So I will set my heart and mind on things above
I am living for eternity
Gently tear my heart from all my earthly loves

Draw me deeper into You, Lord Jesus
Take me closer to the cross
Where You bled and died
Share with me the fellowship of Your suffering
For I desire abundant life
Jesus I desire abundant life

For I desire abundant life
Jesus I desire abundant life

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

we hear | Romans 5

(leader)  For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us… For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

we confess | Prayer adapted from Valley of Vision

O Lord, Let me not only speak the word sin, but see the thing itself.  O my life-long damage and daily shame!  O my indwelling and besetting sins!  O the tormenting slavery of my sinful heart!  Destroy, O God, the dark enemy within, whom I have oft welcomed as my guest.  Thank you that you have not left me without grace; the cross still stands and meets my needs in the deepest straights of the soul.  The memory of my great sins, my many temptations, my falls, bring afresh into my mind the remembrance of Your great help, of the great grace in Christ that saved such a wretch as I am… such an enemy that I have been.  There is no treasure so wonderful as that continuous experience of your grace toward me which alone can subdue the risings of sin within.  Give me more of it.  Amen.

we rest | SONG: What the Lord Has Done in Me

Let the weak say I am strong
Let the poor say I am rich
Let the blind say I can see
It’s what the Lord has done in me

Hosanna! Hosanna!
To the Lamb that was slain
Hosanna! Hosanna!
Jesus died and rose again

Into the river I will wade
There my sins are washed away
From the heavens mercy streams
Of the Savior’s love for me

I will rise from waters deep
Into the saving arms of God
I will sing salvation songs
Jesus Christ has set me free

declaration | 1 John 1:9

(leader)  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon | Calling a Pastor?  •  Titus 1:5-9

we respond | SONG: I Have a River

I have a river
A river of life
Flowing inside of me
And it never runs dry

I have a treasure
A glorious prize!
The Spirit of God in me
In abundant supply

Spirit You are my living water
And I’ll never need
What this world offers

So I will rejoice
For You have made me glad
I want this world
To want what I have

I have a river
A river of life
Flowing inside of me
And it never runs dry

I have a treasure
A glorious prize!
The Spirit of God in me
In abundant supply

Spirit You are my living water
And I’ll never need
What this world offers

So I will rejoice
For You have made me glad
I want this world
To want what I have

I have a river
A river of life
Flowing inside of me
And it never runs dry

I have a treasure
A glorious prize!
The Spirit of God in me
In abundant supply

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelu – You are the river

SONG: Tis So Sweet

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
and to take him at his word
just to rest upon his promise
and to know, “Thus saith the Lord

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him
How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust him more

O how sweet to trust in Jesus
just to trust his cleansing blood
and in simple faith to plunge me
neath the healing, cleansing flood

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him
How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust him more

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus
just from sin and self to cease
just from Jesus simply taking
life and rest, and joy and peace

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him
How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust him more

I’m so glad I learned to trust thee
precious Jesus, Savior, friend
and I know that thou art with me
wilt be with me to the end

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him
How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust him more

compelled to go out

God blesses us and charges us go out and extend his kingdom into the broken world around us, making disciples of all nations.

benediction | Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.  Amen
