worship as communal exchange

called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

SONG: Sing to the King

Sing to the King Who is coming to reign
Glory to Jesus, the Lamb that was slain

Life and salvation His empire shall bring
and joy to the nations, when Jesus is King

Come, let us sing a song
a song declaring we belong to Jesus
He is all we need

Lift up a heart of praise
Sing now with voices raised to Jesus
Sing to the King

For His returning we watch and we pray
We will be ready the dawn of that day

We’ll join in singing with all the redeemed
’cause Satan is vanquished and Jesus is King

Come, let us sing a song
a song declaring that we belong to Jesus
He is all we need

Lift up a heart of praise
Sing now with voices raised to Jesus
Sing to the King

Come, let us sing a song
a song declaring we belong to Jesus
He is all we need

Lift up a heart of praise
Sing now with voices raised to Jesus
Sing to the King

we hear | Matthew 18:20

(leader) For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.

(all) Glorify yourself today, O God – through Jesus Christ our righteousness in our midst!

SONG: In Need

In need of grace
In need of love
In need of mercy raining down
From high above

In need of strength
In need of peace
In need of things
That only you can give to me

In need of Christ
the perfect lamb
My refuge strong
The great I am

This is my song
my humble plea
I am Your child
I am in need

I am Your child
I am in need

from Hebrews 1:1-12

(leader)  Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,  but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.  After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”?
Or again,
“I will be to him a father,
and he shall be to me a son”?
And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”
Of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels winds,
and his ministers a flame of fire.”
But of the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”
And,
“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,
and the heavens are the work of your hands;
they will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment,
like a robe you will roll them up,
like a garment they will be changed.
But you are the same,
and your years will have no end.”

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

we hear & confess | from Valley of Vision Book of Prayers

O Lord of Grace, our first sin of the day leads to others, and it is just that you should withdraw your presence.  Keep us at all times from robbing you, and from depriving our souls of your due worship.  Let us never forget our eternal duty to love, honor and obey you, that you are infinitely worthy of such; that if we fail to glorify you, we are guilty of infinite evil that merits infinite punishment, for sin is the violation of an infinite obligation.  O forgive us for dishonoring you.  Melt our hearts, heal our backslidings, and open an intercourse of love.  Let your mercies draw us to you.  Wean us from all evil, mortify us to the world, and make us ready for departure.  Amen.

we rest | SONG: Come All Ye Pining

Lord we adore thy boundless grace
The heights and depths unknown
Of pardon life and joy and peace
In thy beloved son

Come all ye pining hungry poor
The Saviors bounty taste
Behold a never failing store
For every willing guest

O wondrous gifts of love divine
Dear source of every good
Jesus in thee what glories shine
How rich thy flowing blood

Here shall your numerous wants receive
A free a full supply
He has unmeasured bliss to give
And joys that never die

declaration | 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon | The Christian’s Contentment  •  Philippians 4:10-23

we respond | SONG: The Solid Rock

My Hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

On Christ the solid rock I stand.
All other ground in sinking sand.
All other ground in sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

On Christ the solid rock I stand.
All other ground in sinking sand.
All other ground in sinking sand.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

On Christ the solid rock I stand.
All other ground in sinking sand.
All other ground in sinking sand.

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

On Christ the solid rock I stand.
All other ground in sinking sand.
All other ground in sinking sand.

On Christ the solid rock I stand.
All other ground in sinking sand.
All other ground in sinking sand.

SONG: Evermore

You are peace, when war is all around us
You are rest, when our souls are tired
Been alive since the day that you found us
To our cold hearts, you’re a raging fire

From the grave, from the grave
you have called us
Every soul can be made alive

We are saved from the shame
and the darkness
Evermore brought into the light

No one else spins the earth, holds the heavens
No one else hears our secret cries
Lord, your kingdom is constant and endless
And your grace is a wonderful surprise

At the sound of your name
chains are broken

At the sound of your name
wounds are healed

At the sound of your name
salvation is revealed

Evermore brought into the light
Evermore we are one with Christ

compelled to go out

God blesses us and charges us go out and extend his kingdom into the broken world around us, making disciples of all nations.

benediction | Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.  Amen.
