In Genesis 1, God reveals Himself to us as our powerful and purposeful Creator. He also reveals a lot about who we are and why he created us. We were created in his image and that points to our unique dignity, duty and destiny.

Last time we saw that Genesis 1 reveals God’s great power as Creator of the universe. Now we consider what the chapter reveals about God’s good purpose in creating the world.

The Creator’s Power

It’s tempting to approach Genesis 1 with all of our own questions about creation vs evolution, how to understand the six days, and how to relate science and faith. However, first and foremost, Genesis 1 is God speaking to us about Himself. He is infinite in his power and authority as our Creator!
