worship as communal exchange

called to come in

God comes near and calls his people out of the world, and takes hold of us and brings us into the community of Himself.

we hear | Isaiah 55:1-6; Revelation 22

To the gathered: Come, everyone who thirst, come to the waters.  Come, seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.

To the Gatherer: Come Lord Jesus!  Come!

SONG: Come People of the Risen King

Come, people of the Risen King
Who delight to bring Him praise
Come all and tune your hearts to sing
To the Morning Star of grace

From the shifting shadows of the earth
We will lift our eyes to Him
Where steady arms of mercy reach
To gather children in

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

Come, those whose joy is morning sun
And those weeping through the night
Come, those who tell of battles won
And those struggling in the fight

For His perfect love will never change
And His mercies never cease
But follow us through all our days
With the certain hope of peace

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

Come, young and old from every land
Men and women of the faith
Come, those with full or empty hands
Find the riches of His grace

Over all the world, His people sing
Shore to shore we hear them call
The Truth that cries through every age
“Our God is all in all”

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

Rejoice, Rejoice
Let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice
O Church of Christ, rejoice

we respond | Revelation 19

(leader) After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out:

(all) Hallelujah!  Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for his judgments are true and just…

(leader) Once more they cried out:

(all) Hallelujah!

(leader) And the twenty four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the  throne, saying,

(all) Amen, Hallelujah!

(leader) And from the throne came a voice saying, Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.  Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying:

(all) Hallelujah!  For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.  Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory!

SONG: All Hail the Power of Jesus Name

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
Let Angels prostrate fall
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all

Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all

Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race
Ye ransomed from the fall
Hail Him who saves you by His grace
And crown Him Lord of all

Hail Him who saves you by His grace
And crown Him Lord of all

Let every kindred, every tribe
On this terrestrial ball
To Him all majesty ascribe
And crown Him Lord of all

To Him all majesty ascribe
And crown Him Lord of all

O that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall
We’ll join the everlasting song
And crown Him Lord of all

We’ll join the everlasting song
And crown Him Lord of all

confessing our sin

God the Spirit reminds us that God the Father has saved us through the righteous life and sacrificial death of Christ the Son – and in faith we rest on his gracious interest to renew us yet again.

we hear and confess | Prayer from Valley of Vision Book of Prayers

(leader) Eternal Father, you are good beyond all thought, but I am vile, wretched, miserable, blind.  My lips are ready to confess, but my heart is slow to feel, and my ways reluctant to amend.

(all) I bring my soul to you; break it, wound it, bend it, mould it.  Unmask to me sin’s deformity, that I may hate it, abhor it, flee from it.

(leader) I have seen the purity and beauty of your perfect law, the happiness of those in whose heart it reigns, the calm dignity of the walk to which it calls

(all) – yet I daily violate it.

(leader) Your Spirit strives within me, brings me Scriptures warnings, speaks providentially, allures with whispers.

(all) Yet I choose devices and desires to my own hurt.  All these sins I mourn, lament, and for them I cry pardon.  Grant me tears of repentance through which I may see clearly the brightness and glory of the cross.  Amen.

SONG: O Great God

O great God of highest heav’n
occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
conquer every rebel pow’r

Let no vice or sin remain
that resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
make me Yours forever more

I was blinded by my sin
had no ears to hear Your voice
did not know Your love within
had no taste for heaven’s joys

Then Your Spirit gave me life
opened up Your Word to me
through the gospel of Your Son
gave me endless hope and peace

Help me now to live a life
that’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
from the evils that I face

You are worthy to be praised
with my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heav’n
glorify Your Name through me

You are worthy to be praised
with my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heav’n
glorify Your Name through me

declaration | 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

consecrated by the Word

God declares the finished gospel of his Son, and continues his powerful, internal work of  change/consecration by his Spirit.

sermon | Stand Firm Thus  •  Philippians 3:12-4:1

we respond | SONG: The Solid Rock

My Hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground in sinking sand
All other ground in sinking sand

SONG: By Faith

By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation’s grand design

In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness
Who walk by faith and not by sight

By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the power of His promise in their hearts

Of a holy city built by God’s own hand
A place where peace and justice reign

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward

Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed-for Messiah would appear

With the power to break the
chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave

By faith the church was called to go
In the power of the Spirit to the lost

To deliver captives and to preach good news
In every corner of the earth

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward

Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

By faith this mountain shall be moved
And the power of the gospel shall prevail

For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward

Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward

Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

compelled to go out

God blesses us and charges us go out and extend his kingdom into the broken world around us, making disciples of all nations.

benediction | Numbers 6

In Christ, who is the good news of the kingdom… the Lord has blessed you and does keep you; the Lord has made his face to shine upon you and is gracious to you; the Lord lifts up his countenance upon you and gives you peace.  Amen.
